It is situated at 28 km from the east side of the Mayiladuthurai. Amirthakadeswarar is name of Sivan in thirukadaiyur. Naming reason of amithakadeshwarar. Devar and asurar prepared amirtham from parkadal. After that maha Vishnu thinks it should available only for devars not for asurars. So maha Vishnu takes mohini incarnation then fools the asurars. Then maha Vishnu takes amirtham to thirukadaiyur temple. Then Vishnu planned to distribute the amirtham to all devars from amitha pushkarani(pond) which is available in back side of the temple. Amirtham was found missed after he taken holy bath from the pond. Before starting anything we have to pray Vinayagar. They forget to give amirtham to vinayagar. So vinayagar steal amirtha kalasam from pond. So he named as “Kalla pillayar”. Maha Vishnu is named as Amitha Narayana perumal temple situated near to thirukadaiyur temple. It is also called as vilvaranya shethram. Amithakalasam hided under vilvam tree. That amithakalasam was changed to suyambumoorthy(eeshwaran). So it is god named as Amitha kadam +eeswaran = Amirthakadeshwarar. Markandeyar ever age 16, prayed amithakadeswarar yeman(god of death) throw his rope towards markandeyar. Markandeyar goes near to amirthakadeswarar and rope ties amithakadeswarar too. So amithakadeswarar takes ruthra incarvation and kicks yeman and gave ever 16 age blessing.
The birth was decided by karmas. Every one was under the control of navagraghas. Important navagragha is saneeshwaran. He only decides the birth and death, he was a great ruler (so why gods symbol is weighing scale).saneeshwarar brother is yeman. Navagragha will control only when person alive. Yeman was killed by amirthakadeshwarar. So the power of saneeshwaran is not worked here. So here no separate sannidhanam for navagragha in this temple. At the age of 60, we face so many troubles. If we come to this temple we blessed by all positive vibes. That’s why we are doing 60th marriage in this temple.
